Unemployment in Israel fell in January

The unemployment rate in Israel decreased to 2.6 % in January 2025, after the seasonal amendment, from 2.7 % in December 2024, according to the reports of the Central Bureau of Statistics. The unemployment rate is still at low levels of historical, although it was just less at 2.5 % in November 2024 – the lowest level since the 1970s. At the same time, the number of vacancies in the jobs is still stable at about 141,000, which is much higher than the eve of the war in October 2023.

The unemployment rate is actually 2.8 %, and also an exceptional low rate, but January is a weak month in terms of unemployment data, so that the average figure is the equivalent of 2.6 %, compared to 2.7 % in December 2025. This is exceptionally low unemployment, This indicates the presence of a narrow labor market to the extent of a severe shortage of workers.

Also in the original data, the wide unemployment rate (including those who abandoned job search and employees on a paid vacation) decreased from 4.3 % in December to only 4.1 % in January. Seasoning modification, the rate of employment of all Israelis at work age also increased slightly from 62.9 % to 63 %. At the same time, there is also a decrease in absence from work due to backup fees, especially among men.

More than 60 % of the increase in vacancies stems from demand in the construction sector.

The number of vacancies in the economy remained stable in January compared to December, when it is about 141,000, with 4.43 vacancies per 100 workers in the economy. The numbers of the Central Bureau of Statistics also summarize 2024, noting that “after the war, the number of vacancies increased from about 125,000 vacancies in 2023 to 137,000 per month on average in 2024. This follows a direction of decrease in vacancies from the second half of 2022 to September 2023 (when the number of vacancies was 116,000).

“There was a sharp increase in the number of vacancies in the construction sector, and more than 60 % of the increase in vacancies of the demand for these vacancies.” In fact, the number of vacancies for housing builders, Masonic and concrete classes jumped by 213 % of the average period between January and September 2023 to the Mediterranean for 2024. He also jumped 95 % in the same period.

In contrast, compared to the pre -war period, there were significant decreases in the number of vacancies for engineers and technicians (a decrease of 11 %), waiters and watering (by 16 % decrease), drivers (31 % decrease) and network technicians (33 % decrease).
