Western Digital (formerly SanDisk) is laying off 60 employees in Israel, sources report to the Globes. This is the second round of job cuts for the US data storage and computer drive company in Israel over the past six months. Western Digital has 800 employees in Israel at its headquarters in Kfar Saba, Tefen in the Upper Galilee, and Omer in the Negev.

Western Digital acquired SanDisk, which in turn acquired flash memory developer Dov Moran M-Systems for $1.6 billion in 2006. Western Digital is among a handful of US companies carrying out layoffs at development centers in Israel including Google and Meta, Dropbox, Electronic Arts (EA), and Corning, each for its own reasons, including the global economic crisis, cutbacks in new project development and concern about economic uncertainty in Israel.
