YouTube is killing ‘Stories’ a popular feature next month – What could it means for your channel

The Google-owned video platform has confirmed that it will shut down YouTube Stories in June.

First launched in 2018, Stories allowed creators to post short, mobile-only videos and expired after seven days.

YouTube claims that the change is being made to prioritize other features on the platform.

In a blog post, she explained: “Today, there are so many ways to compose on YouTube — from Community Posts to Shorts, to Long and Live. To prioritize these key features, Stories will disappear.”

The change will go into effect on June 23, after which the option to create a new YouTube Story will no longer be available.

Any Stories already posted will expire seven days after they were originally shared.

If you use YouTube Stories regularly, YouTube recommends you check back in Community Posts or YouTube Short.

“YouTube Community Posts are a great option if you want to share light updates, start conversations, or promote your YouTube content to your audience,” she explained.

“Among creators who use both posts and stories, posts on average lead to many times more comments and likes than stories.”

Although YouTube previously restricted access to community posts for some creators, it has recently expanded the reach to millions.

To create a forum post, log into YouTube and select “Create Post” at the top of the page.

In the box at the top, type a message to create a text post, add text to a photo, GIF, or video post, or choose to create a video, poll, or photo.

Once you are satisfied with your creation, select Publish.
