After a disappointing test flight, Boeing announced (New York Stock Exchange: BAThe Starliner spacecraft returned to Earth shortly after midnight Saturday without the crew that carried it to the International Space Station a few months ago.
The spacecraft landed at White Sands. space port NASA announced the flight will take place at 12:01 a.m. Eastern New Mexico Time on Saturday.
Boeing Co. launched its Starliner spacecraft carrying NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, a milestone in the aircraft maker’s space program that has been marked by years of development delays and test flight delays.
The launch took place on June 5 aboard an Atlas 5 rocket, built under a joint venture with Lockheed Martin (LMT).
The duo, who were scheduled to return to Earth after a week-long mission, found themselves stranded on the International Space Station while NASA reconsidered a return trip home on the troubled spacecraft.
In late August, the space agency tasked Elon Musk’s space exploration company, SpaceX, with returning Wilma and Williams to Earth on a mission expected to end in February.
