In less than two weeks, the United States will have a new administration in power, but there is already a lot of controversy surrounding President-elect Donald Trump and his policies.

One of the most controversial is his stated desire to purchase Greenland for strategic, economic and political reasons.

Trump claims that purchasing Greenland would be vital to US national security, both for surveillance and defense purposes given its location near Canada and Russia, as well as its energy.

In this regard, Greenland is of interest due to the huge amount of natural resources in hydropower, wind energy, geothermal energy and rare earth minerals. This is particularly interesting from a Bitcoin perspective, especially given the cold climate in Greenland and the current lack of Bitcoin mining there, which now represents a whole new opportunity for the country.

the Majority Today, American Bitcoin is mined in the states of Texas, Georgia, New York, and North Dakota. Buying Greenland could give the United States the opportunity to mine in more favorable conditions, increase the hash rate of Bitcoin and decentralize it.

This could also be a strategic play for America, given that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law legalizing Bitcoin mining in August of 2024 and stated in 2022 that the country has “some competitive advantages” in Bitcoin mining due to its cold climate.

With Donald Trump’s continued support of US Bitcoin miners and expressing interest in pioneering the industry before competing countries embrace it – this gives Trump the opportunity to significantly expand US dominance in Bitcoin mining under favorable conditions.

Not only would this be a victory for America, but Greenland would benefit from it as well. Greenland relies heavily on the Danish government for financial support, and Bitcoin mining could provide an alternative economic means. Greenland will then get full support from the US government to take advantage of their natural and untapped resources to mine Bitcoin and get anything else they need support with. Greenland will then be able to create more jobs to build the infrastructure needed to run these operations and bring in additional revenue from the mined Bitcoin. As the price of Bitcoin rises, it makes the extracted Bitcoin and mining operations more valuable. Sounds like a win to me.

Trump is very keen to acquire Greenland and make it an American territory. If he does, it could be a massive boost for Bitcoin as well.
