(Reuters) – Unifor union members at Ontario auto and battery assembly plants have ratified a two-year contract with General Motors that delivers significant wage increases, the Canadian labour union said on Sunday.
Unifor Local 88 union members voted 95.7% in favor of ratifying the contract that will see workers’ wages increase 10% immediately with a 2% increase in September 2025 and an additional 3% increase in July 2026.
The union said in a statement that the contract will also provide for a 20.25% wage increase for skilled workers.
The new two-year agreement is now set to expire on September 20, 2026, according to Unifor.
“For the first time, Unifor has successfully negotiated a two-year contract that will link CAMI members to the Detroit Three negotiations to combine the future bargaining power of more than 5,600 members at GM,” said Unifor National President Lana Payne.
General Motors did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Local 88 represents more than 1,300 CAMI members and the Battery Association that manufactures the Chevrolet BrightDrop EV 600, EV 400 and Ultium battery packs.
