Elbit Systems (TSX: ESLT, Nasdaq: ESLT) announced today that it has won two contracts worth a total of $175 million (NIS 620 million) to supply EW (electronic warfare) and DIRCM (directed infrared countermeasures) self-protection systems. Wings of a European country in NATO. The contracts will be implemented over a period of five years.
Elbit Systems will deliver its self-protection wings for installation on Embraer C-390 Millenium aircraft and Airbus H225M helicopters. The C-390 contract also includes an agreement with another European country, providing for the delivery of an advanced electronic warfare suite for installation on Embraer C-390 Millenium aircraft.
“The advanced EW and DIRCM self-protection suite, which will be installed on both systems, provides enhanced defense capabilities by autonomously detecting, analyzing and countering a wide range of threats,” Elbit Systems’ announcement said. “The kit includes Elbit Systems’ advanced digital radar receiver, infrared missile warning system (MWS), laser warning system (LWS), countermeasures dispenser system (CMDS) and DIRCM system from the MUSIC family. In addition, as part From C- Under Contract No. 390, Elbit Systems will provide the SPEAR Advanced ECM (AECM) Pod, which can be easily installed and transported between aircraft on a flight line.
“With our electronic warfare self-protection kits installed on more than 30 types of aircraft and deployed in numerous countries, including several NATO members, Elbit Systems is recognized as a world leader in electronic warfare and DIRCM technology.” said Oren Sabbagh, General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW. “These new contracts strengthen our global position in the field of airborne self-protection wings.”
Last week, the Israeli Ministry of Defense signed contracts with Elbit Systems worth about $40 million (NIS 150 million) for advanced drones and autonomous systems. The new systems were jointly developed by the Ministry’s Defense Research and Development Directorate (“MAFAT”), the IDF Ground Forces, and Elbit Systems. They are designed for various missions, including precise intelligence collection and targeted strikes.
Meanwhile, Elbit Systems UK’s UK subsidiary Elbit Systems UK has announced the completion of the supply of JFST (Joint Fires Artificial Trainer) systems to the British Army. JFST provides training to forces directing artillery fire, fighter aircraft, helicopters or drones. The routine completion of the deal illustrates the fact that although the British government decided in September to suspend 30 out of 350 licenses to export weapons to Israel, the British armed forces still need Israeli systems. Elbit Systems is a leading manufacturer of simulators. In preparation for an Iranian missile attack on Israel, for example, the Israeli Air Force trained on simulators produced by the company. “JFST has facilitated over 12,000 hours of training for the UK Armed Forces and NATO allies,” according to Elbit Systems UK. Whether for air or ground combat, simulators represent a significant saving in munitions, fuel and the complex logistics required in live-fire exercises.
