Even for the master and caller as it is, the bad publicity he could have done without it.
Because there is propaganda that smells of sulfur and can ruin even the best reputation. This is the exception that all publicity is good for.
Elon Musk finds himself in one of those unenviable situations. The billionaire businessman’s name has just surfaced in the explosive Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
A woman, who has not been identified, and the US Virgin Islands government sued JPMorgan in late 2022, alleging that the bank facilitated the actions of Jeffrey Epstein, who is accused of sexual offenses against minors.
JPMorgan denies the accusations.
“The government brought this civil action against defendant JPMorgan Chase Bank, NA (“JPMorgan”) as part of its ongoing efforts to protect public safety and hold accountable those who facilitated or participated, directly or indirectly, in the Jeffrey Epstein trafficking scheme, U.S. Lands said in a statement. court documents It opened on May 15th.
It added that its investigation revealed that JPMorgan “knowingly, recklessly and unlawfully provided the means of payment by which Epstein’s recruits and victims were paid and were necessary to the operation and concealment of Epstein’s trafficking enterprise.”
Musk is not accused of sin
As part of that process, the U.S. Virgin Islands issued a subpoena to Musk, according to the same court documents, because it alleged that its investigation “disclosed that JPMorgan profited financially from deposits made by entities controlled by Epstein and Epstein located in the Virgin Islands and from business opportunities referred to it.” JPMorgan by Epstein and his co-conspirators in exchange for its known facilitation and tacit participation in the Epstein sex trafficking project.”
Essentially, the US district wants to prove that JPMorgan turned a blind eye to Epstein’s activities, because the bank had more to gain by keeping him as a client. Thus, he can recommend his billionaire acquaintances to the bank.
US Lands said in the documents that Musk is “a high-net-worth individual to whom Epstein may have referred or attempted to refer to JPMorgan” as a client. As a result, it issued a billionaire subpoena for documents on April 28, 2023.
The subpoena required the serial entrepreneur to produce several documents, such as “electronically stored information or objects, and permit the examination, copying, testing, or sampling of materials.” The US Virgin Islands also wants to search Musk’s headquarters.
Musk is not accused of any wrongdoing.
Alex Spiro, Musk’s attorney, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Musk is nowhere to be found
The problem is that the Virgin Islands was trying to send a subpoena to Musk or one of his legal representatives but it was unsuccessful. US Lands said it attempted to service Musk at Tesla offices but was unable to locate him.
They also hire private investigators to get the billionaire’s address but also to no avail. Faced with these failed attempts, the Virgin Islands is asking the judge to allow them to file a subpoena with Tesla or a legal representative of the electric car manufacturer.
It wrote that the US Virgin Islands “made sincere efforts to obtain an address for Mr. Musk and to file a subpoena against him personally.” Furthermore, the expiration date for finding out the truth is the end of this month. In the circumstances, the court in the interest of securing a fair and prompt resolution should authorize the government to arrange an alternative service to be called to file documents through Mr. Musk’s service via the service provided by the registered agent of Tesla Inc. .”.
Epstein was sentenced to 13 months in prison in 2008 for driving young girls to prostitution in Florida, pursuant to a confidential agreement with the attorney general, which allowed him to escape federal prosecution.
Charged and arrested in 2019 for organizing, for several years, a network of dozens of young girls under his influence with whom he had sexual relations on his many properties, he committed suicide in prison a few weeks later, before his trial. .
JPMorgan retained him as a client until 2013.
