To meet demand for the most popular pickup truck among businesses and consumers, Ford Motor Company (New York Stock Exchange: FFord is expanding production of F-Series Super Duty trucks to its Oakville, Ontario, Canada assembly plant with a $2.3 billion investment.
The Canadian facility will increase Total production of the Super Duty is 100,000 units, which completes production at the Ford plant (FSuper Duty plants in Kentucky and Ohio are already running at full capacity. Both sites have produced more than 200,000 trucks in the first half of this year alone.
The expansion effort will initially create 1,800 jobs in Oakville, along with 150 new jobs at the Windsor Engine Complex, and 70 additional jobs and overtime at Ford component plants.
“The Super Duty is a vital tool for businesses and people around the world, and even with our Kentucky Truck Plant and Ohio Assembly Plant running at full capacity, we can’t meet demand,” said CEO Jim Farley.
The F-Series Super Duty pickup truck maintains a significant market share among commercial industries with a 58% market share in mining, 56% in utility, 53% in emergency vehicles and 44% in construction.
