Brian Brooks – former US Comptroller of the Currency – has become the newest member of Hashdex’s board of directors. He will act as a strategic advisor to the Crypto Asset Manager and advise its regulatory efforts.
Brooks has experience working in a digital asset company since he was CEO of Binance US in 2021. He later served as CEO of crypto mining company Bitfury Group before stepping down in October 2022.

Crypto-Focused Global Asset Manager – Hashdex – announce Brooks became the fifth member of its board of directors. As part of his duties, he will direct corporate strategy and advise on regulations to provide institutional investors with access to the digital asset ecosystem.
Brooks will also aim to advance the company’s efforts to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the cryptocurrency industry by striking vital deals with monetary organizations and lawmakers around the world.
Marcelo Sampaio, CEO of Hashdex, believes that Brooks’ “extensive experience” in the financial sector will help the company achieve its “core mission of giving investors simple and secure access to the evolving crypto ecosystem.”
He added, “His proven ability to drive thoughtful, innovation-driven public policy forward is much needed at this time, and we are delighted to have him as a partner and advisor.”
Brooks, for his part, claimed that cryptocurrencies are “changing the economics of almost every industry around the world,” enabling people to take an ownership stake in the network they participate in. He also praised Hashdex for its expansion into the USA, Latin America and Europe, saying it has been “at the forefront of giving global investors regulated access” to the digital asset market.
His previous forays into cryptography
An American lawyer and banker who served as the acting controller of the currency during the Donald Trump administration was the chief legal officer of the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase from 2018 to 2020.
In the early summer of 2021, he became the CEO of Binance US. However, his time there has only lasted three months since then to resign In August of the same year. He did not specify the reason for the decision, and only indicated the differences between it and the strategic direction of the American Binance branch.
He started another crypto journey in November 2021 when become CEO of bitcoin mining company Bitfury Group. Brooks was responsible for keeping the company among the industry leaders in Europe. He resigned in October last year to join the Bitfury board of directors.
