Cardano has processed more than 134,000 transactions per second (tps), marking a major milestone in the development of the platform. Charles Hoskinson, CEO of Input Output Global (IOG), shared his excitement about X, saying: “Not bad Cardano. #HailHydra,” alongside a screenshot showing 134,464 frames per second.

When a user inquired whether this feat had been achieved on the testnet, Hoskinson explained that it was “Hydra Doom,” explaining that “every frame of the game is a transaction. When people play, this is the outcome.” This increase in transactions is directly related to the ongoing $100,000 Hydra Doom tournament hosted by Input Output, which began today.

On December 2, during pre-event testing, Cardano actually reached 28,500 TPS. Hoskinson alluded to the network’s capacity by noting that “Cardano is running some significant loads at the moment.” The Hydra Doom Tournament is a competitive gaming platform and live demonstration of Cardano’s layer 2 scalability solution, Hydra.

Celebrities include Fatal1ty, and actor Chris Pang of Crazy Rich Asians fame. The event is hosted by esteemed esports personalities Dgon and Raynday.
Hoskinson emphasized the tournament’s mix of innovation and competition, expressing “they are extremely excited to host the Hydra Doom tournament, which brings together players from all over the world in an unforgettable confrontation.” He stressed that this event “is not only about the thrill of competition or the large cash prize for the winners; It’s a rare opportunity to be part of something historic.
Hoskinson further explained: “With the power of Hydra, we are pushing gaming to new limits, aiming to reach up to 1 million transactions per second, and paving the way for the future of high-speed blockchain-powered gaming. The tournament features online global qualifiers, allowing players to join during a two-hour window today to compete for a share of the $100,000 prize pool. The best players from the online tournament will qualify for the finals in Las Vegas in January 2025, where they will compete live in the professional eSports arena.
