The nonprofit Bitcoin development organization, Brink, has received significant financial support with a $5 million pledge from Jack Dorsey’s #startsmall organization. The pledge, totaling $1 million annually over the next five years, is intended to support Brink’s efforts to fund Bitcoin developers and ensure the long-term sustainability of the Bitcoin core database.

Brink aims to offer fellowship and support to Bitcoin developers and the Bitcoin neighborhood. The organization offers developer grants, mentorship programs, and funding opportunities to further the open source development of Bitcoin and related technologies. By nurturing new contributors and decentralizing the development of the Bitcoin protocol, Brink hopes to strengthen the Bitcoin network and developer ecosystem.

Mike Schmidt expressed his gratitude for this generous pledge, saying: “Brink is very grateful for this expanded pledge to support our Bitcoin developer funding efforts. $1,000,000 per year for each of the next five years means we can help make Bitcoin development a sustainable career. To the talented developers who are building, and secure, test, and review the Bitcoin Core codebase.”

The support from #startsmall will greatly contribute to Brink’s mission to support the development of bitcoin and promote decentralized open source systems. This massive injection of funding will enable continued support for Bitcoin developers and facilitate their critical work in maintaining and strengthening the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Brink is actively involved in creating a sustainable environment for Bitcoin development. With additional funding, they can attract more talent, educate developers further, and expand their fellowship and grant programs. This financial support not only demonstrates #startsmall’s commitment to open source initiatives, but also highlights the growing importance of bitcoin and its underlying technology.
