Budget carrier Jambojet, on Monday, opened up 1,000 tickets for sale at a discounted rate of Sh10 as part of celebrations to mark its tenth anniversary.

Jambojet Managing Director Karanja Ndegwa said that the tickets would be for one-way flights on select flights to various local destinations.

The promotion that also aims at wooing more travellers to fly with the carrier will apply to flights from April 8 to 26.

At 10 for a one-way air ticket, this means that a Jambojet ticket for a route such as Nairobi-Mombasa that would ordinarily sell at Sh8,500 on a weekend will save travellers Sh8,490.

“We have sold around 700 tickets as we talk and the remaining ones will be snapped up in the next few hours. The plan is to reward our loyal customers as we mark our 10th Anniversary,” said Mr Ndegwa in an interview with the Business Daily on Monday morning.

Mr Karanja said the tickets can only booked via the airline’s website.

“We believe in making it easy for our customers to fly across our routes. This is the best way to do this,” he said.

The offer comes at a time when the Kenya Airways subsidiary plans to expand its wings across East Africa.

From July 1, the airline plans to fly four times a week between Mombasa and Zanzibar, with fares starting from $113 for a one-way ticket.

The carrier, which has been in operation since 2014, says it has ferried more than seven million passengers across its routes.

The regional low-cost airline flies to seven destinations from its hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi to Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu, Malindi, Ukunda (Diani), Lamu, and Goma in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The airline also operates three routes from its secondary hub at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa.
