Fields (NASDAQ: MASEY) is partnering with Google (GOOG) to develop a new reference platform for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to build smartwatches powered by Google’s Wear OS.
OEMs adopting the new Masimo (MASI) platform, which is expected to be compatible with existing Google apps Samsung, which specializes in developing services created for the Wear OS platform, will continue to design and produce the physical appearance of the new smartwatches, and will have creative control over the appearance of the user interface.
“Building high-quality smartwatches with the premium features that users expect can be time-consuming and costly. With the Masimo Reference Platform, smartwatch manufacturers can leverage the latest biometric sensing technology and bring their Wear OS devices to market quickly and at scale. Together, we are driving innovation across the Wear OS ecosystem that provides end users with high-performance, feature-rich devices to choose from,” said Björn Kilborn, General Manager of Wear OS at Google (GOOG) (GOOGL).
