CrowdStrike confirms that the hack was done by the “Labyrinth Chollima” group.

A North Korean hacker group has been identified responsible for a recent security breach of US IT management company JumpCloud. According to cyber security experts, the attack could be an attempt by hackers to gain access to many potential victims at once.

in blog post By JumpCloud, the company confirmed that the attack took place on June 27. It also revealed that hackers targeted less than 5 of its customers using its access. And while JumpCloud did not reveal exactly which customers were affected by the attack, there may be reasons to believe it was nothing more than crypto theft. This is according to sources familiar with the matter.

Meanwhile, cybersecurity firms CrowdStrike Holding and Mandiant also weighed in on the attack. CrowdStrike confirms that the hack was done by the “Labyrinth Chollima” group. Mandiant also confirmed initial suspicions that the group may be working on behalf of North Korea. According to Mandiant, the hackers responsible worked for North Korea’s Reconnaissance General Bureau (RGB). This is the country’s main foreign intelligence agency.

JumpCloud Hack: The latest developments in North Korean cybercrime and crypto theft

It should be noted that the JumpCloud hack is not the first time that North Korea has been linked to such misdeeds. However, the latest hack seems to indicate that North Korean hackers are gradually improvising.

For context, it appears they are now targeting companies that could give them broader access to many victims, rather than their old method of going after individual crypto companies. Technically, this term is known as a “supply chain attack”.

But despite various allegations against North Korea, particularly regarding the organization of cryptocurrency theft, the country has continued to deny its involvement.

Despite this, blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis said last year that North Korean hackers stole $1.7 billion worth of digital assets via multiple hacks.
