(Reuters) – Oracle Corporation (NYSE:) said Wednesday that it is adding generative artificial intelligence features to its human resources software for companies, with the goal of helping formulate job descriptions and employee performance goals, among other tasks.
Artificial intelligence systems such as ChatGPT that can generate human-like answers to prompts have revolutionized the technology sector, including companies. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) and Alphabet (NASDAQ: Google) are integrating them into their search engines.
Many business users have taken generative AI technology with more caution because it can fabricate facts that are not true and be tricked into saying troubling things.
Large companies use Oracle’s HR software to hire new employees and provide performance appraisals, among other things. Oracle will put a button on several fields in the program that will automatically generate draft text for things like job listings or performance goals.
said Rich Buchheim, vice president of Product Management for Oracle Adaptive Intelligence Applications.
Buchheim said the resulting script would still need human approval.
“We don’t expect generative AI to write your goals for you,” Buchheim said. “It will give you a starting point, it will give you useful information that you can start with.”
The features are expected to roll out by the end of this year.
In the future, Oracle is working on how to use AI for more complex HR tasks, such as how to write lists of job requirements that comply with local regulations in different markets, said Jay Waterman, Oracle vice president of people analytics, human capital management technology, and innovation.
“It may have taken a week or two for someone to make a decision and then act on it. If we can change that into hours and minutes, that’s where we really see the difference in the capabilities of generative AI,” Waterman said. .
