(Reuters) – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said Thursday that Peloton Interactive has recalled 2 million exercise bikes, citing possible seatpost breakage during use that could lead to injuries.
Shares of the company fell 7% to $6.90.
The recall is piling more pressure on Peloton (NASDAQ: ), as the company deals with slumping demand for its fitness equipment amid an uncertain economy.
The commission said Peloton had received 35 reports of seatposts breaking and detaching from the bike during use, including 13 reports of injuries resulting from falling off the bike.
This recall includes Peloton Bikes with model number PL01 that were sold from January 2018 to May 2023 in the United States and are one of the company’s flagship products.
Peloton said in a statement on its website that the seat post can break unexpectedly during use, creating the potential for falls and injury.
It added that there is no impact on Peloton Bike+ members or original Peloton bike owners in the UK, Germany and Australia.
