PlaySolana debuts first handheld console on SOL

Solana ecosystem players have been focused on mobile since Saga Phone, and a SOL-based team just announced a web3 gaming bet.

Less than twenty-four hours before the Solana (SOL) Singapore stop, a team of SOL kids called Play Solana Advertise The first portable gaming console built on layer 1 blockchain technology. The startup calls its gaming device “Play Solana Gen1” or “PSG1.” Some social media users have noted that it resembles older gaming consoles, such as the popular Nintendo Game Boy.

The gaming device will launch with support for the decentralized SOL network, though the specific web3 games that users will be able to play have not yet been revealed. PlaySolana also noted that the device may differ from the images shown in promotional models, and a launch date has yet to be announced.

More blockchain development teams are exploring mobile devices as Web 3 adoption expands globally. The successor to the SOL Saga phone, dubbed “Seeker,” has surpassed 140,000 pre-sales after emerging from obscurity.

In the gaming space, Mysten Labs, the company behind the top-tier Sui (SUI) series, has announced a new console. The SuiPlay0X1 claims to be the world’s first web3-powered mobile gaming device. The Sui is scheduled to ship in the first half of 2025.

It’s unclear how successful blockchain gaming projects will be. As crypto.news reported, a study by Elympic found that platforms like Telegram significantly drove the adoption of Web 3 gaming in 2024.
