The famous Skype from Microsoft online will officially close its doors in May 2025, according to a statement published on X (previously Twitter).
Users are advised to deport their accounts to Microsoft Free teams in the coming days to keep the current chats, contacts and calls.
“From May 2025, Skype will not be available,” the company said, and she thanks customers for “being part of Skype.” Although Microsoft has not made an official comment on the media, this step is explained as part of the technology giant strategy to enhance its communication platforms.
Skype, who was synonymous with online communication, underwent multiple updates since Microsoft acquired it in 2011. The latest advertisement indicates the end of an era of millions of users who rely on voice and video call service, messages, and conference features. Its user base is now encouraged to adopt the Microsoft Free teams, which promise to provide similar capabilities and smooth transition.
