WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Stellantis (NYSE:) said on Monday it was recalling 194,000 Jeep hybrid electric SUVs to address fire risks after 13 fires were reported, and asked owners to park their vehicles outside and away from other vehicles until repairs to the recall are completed. . .

The Italian-American automaker is recalling certain 2020 to 2024 Jeep Wrangler and 2022 to 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee hybrid models.

Chrysler’s parent company said the fires broke out when the vehicles were parked and idle. It is estimated that 5% of affected vehicles may have the defect.

Stellantis said vehicle risks decrease when the battery’s charge level is depleted, and owners are advised to refrain from recharging and should park their vehicles away from structures or other vehicles. The company said that treatment is imminent.
