Three Kenyan startups have secured Sh4.95 million in funding following an entrepreneurship competition organized by French oil marketing company TotalEnergies.
Victor Mwaura won in the Innov’Up category for his Midas City project, which transforms metal into bespoke 3D art and provides bespoke design products and services tailored to businesses and individuals.
Lenox Ochieng won the Cycle’Up category for Best Circular Economy Project with Ecobana Limited, which makes biodegradable sanitary towels from banana fiber to address menstrual poverty in Africa.
In the Power’Up category, Martin Lusasi received recognition for Boder, a platform that enables the purchase of electric bicycles and provides a commuter service on two-wheeled eco-friendly bicycles, supporting sustainable and affordable transportation.
The Boder platform facilitates seamless interaction between passengers and customers and aims to make eco-friendly transportation accessible to a wider audience.
In addition to each receiving Sh1.65 million to help them develop their projects, these young entrepreneurs will also receive personal support to develop their projects and local exposure to raise awareness of their solutions.
The three are part of 100 winners in 32 countries who took part in the special edition organized to celebrate the company’s centenary. About 1,296 Kenyan startups entered the challenge, with 15 finalists pitching their projects to a local panel of experts.
