With just months to go until the 2024 US elections, former President Trump is looking to boost a potential key group: the cryptocurrency community.
According to Axios, Trump is in talks with an eye toward speaking at the Bitcoin 2024 conference, which is expected to take place July 25-27, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee.
Axios reported this on Monday, citing two sources familiar with the development.
Trump and his growing stance on Bitcoin and crypto
The Bitcoin 2024 event organized by Bitcoin Magazine is the largest BTC event of the year and is being held immediately after the end of the Republican National Convention. Notably, it was at the Bitcoin 2020 event in Miami where El Salvador announced its plan to adopt Bitcoin as a legal tender.
Since this event could provide Trump with a platform to make a major statement about his stance on Bitcoin.
In fact, news of Trump’s plan to speak at this year’s Bitcoin event comes amid a growing realization across the cryptocurrency industry that the former president is a cryptocurrency friend. The comparison with Biden’s approach, and certainly in the months before Trump emerged as a serious supporter of cryptocurrencies, makes the current administration “not good” for the industry.
Earlier this month, Trump met with major Bitcoin miners in the United States, and his comments after the meeting came that all remaining Bitcoin should be mined in the country.
During a recent rally, Trump said: “I will end Joe Biden’s war on cryptocurrencies. We will ensure that the future of cryptocurrencies and the future of Bitcoin will be made in America.”
Cryptocurrency donations to Trump campaign
This positive outlook on cryptocurrencies among other pledges has endeared Trump to the cryptocurrency industry, and one result has been online donations to the Republican candidate.
However, although cryptocurrency exchange founders Gemini Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss recently donated $2 million, the exact amount donated in cryptocurrencies is not yet available.
Data from bread crumbs Offers The Trump campaign received nearly $60,000 in cross-chain cryptocurrency donations before Winklevoss’s contribution.
Total on-chain donations currently stand at around $1,749,200 but with off-chain contributions made via exchanges that will be available soon, this number could be higher.
