ISTANBON (Reuters) – Türkiye has begun to export about 15,000 tons of eggs to the United States, where the outbreak of persistent bird flu, and sent prices and led to talks with other producers.
Ibrahim Ophyon, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Central Eggs (Yum-Bir) in Türkiye, told Reuters that the shipments started this month and will continue until July.
“Export will be through our member companies with the required licenses, while two companies will coordinate the process,” said opium.
“A total of 15,000 tons of eggs will be shipped – equivalent to 700 containers -“.
The United States is working to contain the spread of bird flu, which was first discovered in dairy cattle in Texas last March, and since then it has spread to multiple states. The virus has been injured by about 70 people since April, including one fatal condition, primarily among farm workers exposed to poultry or infected cattle.
The outbreak of poultry that started in 2022 spent about 160 million chickens, Turkey and other birds, which contributed to the lack of eggs.
In response, the US Department of Agriculture (US Department of Agriculture) granted conditional approval to the zoetis animal company to use the bird flu vaccine in poultry.
The agency also rebuilds a stock of specially designed vaccines for the current strain that affects commercial herds and wild birds.
AFYON said that in the face of the supply restrictions, American companies sought alternative import markets, which led to negotiations with Turkish producers.
He said that the deal is expected to generate about $ 26 million in export revenues.
AFYON added that Türkiye is ranked first among the top 10 egg sources in the world.
