Crypto venture capital firm Paradigm has appointed David Swain as its new chief marketing officer.

Swain previously served as head of global communications at Instagram and senior director of technology communications at Facebook. He also served as vice president of global partnerships at social fitness app Strava.

according to a report Swain, of The Block, expressed his excitement to join Paradigm, citing his extensive experience in the technology sector and his belief in the transformative potential of cryptocurrencies.

The report also stated that Alana Palmido, Managing Partner and COO of Paradigm, praised Swain’s understanding of technical breakthroughs and his valuable perspective on the firm’s portfolio and the broader crypto industry.

The appointment of the experienced CEO comes shortly after Paradigm confirmed its commitment to supporting startups in blockchain and other emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.

In June, the venture capital firm raised $850 million for its fund, which aims to continue its support for early-stage crypto projects.

At the time, Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang highlighted the company’s enduring belief in the importance of cryptocurrencies as a technological and economic transformation, a sentiment that has only grown stronger since Paradigm’s founding.

So far in 2024, Paradigm has played a major role in funding over 10 major crypto projects. Notable investments include leading a $225 million Series A funding round for layer-1 blockchain developer Monad and a $150 million round for decentralized social networking protocol Farcaster.

The investment giant was also a major contributor to the $70 million round for Bitcoin (BTC) trading protocol Babylon as well as a Series A round for zero-knowledge proof-of-concept startup Succinct Labs, which raised $55 million.

Swain’s new role at Paradigm is expected to enhance the company’s outreach and awareness efforts, and help align its mission to support the next generation of cryptocurrency innovators.
