WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Venture capitalist Ben Horowitz said on Friday he would make a “significant donation” to entities supporting the Democratic presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris, who faces Republican former President Donald Trump in the Nov. 5 election.
Why is it important
Venture capital firm co-founder Andreessen Horowitz threw his support behind Trump in July. At the time he was supporting Trump, President Joe Biden was the Democratic nominee. Biden later stepped down following a disastrous debate against Trump and Harris took office.
Trump had achieved an advantage over Biden in the states witnessing competition, according to opinion polls, which have become close since Harris entered the race.
Key quotes
“As I mentioned before, (his wife) Felicia and I have known Vice President Harris for over 10 years and she has been a great friend to both of us during that time,” the venture capitalist told X.
“As a result of our friendship, Felicia and I will make a significant donation to entities supporting the Harris Falls campaign,” he added, without specifying the amount or the name of the entity.
He added that the company he co-founded has not formally endorsed Harris because Harris has not yet presented a detailed technology policy platform. He reiterated his frustration with the “exceptionally destructive” technology policies of the Biden administration, where Harris serves as vice president.
“Although I have had several conversations with Vice President Harris and her team about their potential technology policies, and I have been encouraged by my belief in them, they have not yet stated what their technology policy will be, and therefore the company will not be updating its position in this regard,” he said.
Context
Harris’ campaign has been raising significantly more money than Trump’s, giving it a clear cash advantage as both sides bombard battleground states with television ads.
