How do you define success in your professional and personal life?

Success, for me, is about balance and impact. Professionally, I ensure that my work brings real value to the people I support, especially landlords who rely on upfront commissions to keep operations running smoothly. When they succeed, I feel like I did my job well. On a personal level, success is about maintaining strong relationships with my family and staying true to my values of integrity and perseverance. It’s not just about the milestones, it’s about being satisfied with the journey and making a difference along the way.

What inspired you to pursue a career in supporting realtors by offering commissions?

It started with a desire to fill the obvious gap we saw in the industry. Real estate agents often face cash flow issues while waiting for deals to close, and we realized there was an opportunity to help them stay financially stable during that time. My background in accounting gave me the tools to understand the financial side of things, but it was the human side of the industry—listening to agents’ challenges and finding solutions—that really inspired me. Helping agents focus on their business without worrying about immediate cash flow remains incredibly rewarding.

How have you adapted to the rapidly evolving digital landscape in your industry?

Digital transformation has been both a challenge and an opportunity. Automation has streamlined many processes in paying commissions, from submitting documents to tracking transactions, improving efficiency and transparency. However, adapting to new technology requires continuous learning and being proactive in understanding its impacts on customers. Staying ahead of these trends ensures we stay relevant and continue to deliver value.

What role does problem solving play in your daily work?

Problem solving is at the core of everything I do. Every Realtor has unique needs, and no two transactions are alike. One memorable example was working with an agent whose deal unexpectedly fell through, resulting in financial stress. By carefully reviewing their circumstances and finding creative ways to pay their down payment, we helped them stay afloat while they gradually settled their debts without overwhelming their businesses. Moments like these reinforce the importance of dealing with challenges with flexibility and compassion.

What is a professional challenge you faced, and how did you overcome it?

Early in my career, I underestimated how resistant people are to change. When introducing new technology or processes, there are often skepticism, even when the benefits are clear. I learned the importance of patience and communication, as I explained not only what we were implementing but why and how it would improve their experience. Over time, this approach has helped us deliver meaningful innovations that benefit our customers.

How has your background shaped your professional philosophy?

Growing up in South Africa instilled a sense of resilience and adaptability, which has been invaluable throughout my career. Immigrating to Canada was a huge transition, and starting over taught me the value of perseverance and building relationships. These experiences have shaped my belief in continuous learning and the importance of understanding the unique needs of others, principles I carry into my work every day.

What advice would you give to realtors starting their careers today?

Treat your career like a business from day one. Many agents dive into real estate without a clear plan, but having a solid foundation – covering marketing strategies, finances and client relationships – is essential. Also, never stop learning. The real estate market is constantly changing, and those who stay informed and able to adapt are the ones who thrive. Building trust with customers is crucial, and this comes through demonstrating competence and care.

How do you stay motivated during difficult periods?

Staying connected to my purpose helps. Knowing that my work makes life easier for realtors keeps me motivated, even when challenges arise. I also make time for activities that recharge my energy, such as exercising or watching a Liverpool match. It provides a mental reset and helps me approach obstacles with a new perspective. Surrounding myself with a supportive team also makes a huge difference – they are a constant source of inspiration and collaboration.

Do you think that teamwork plays a major role in your professional success?

Whether it’s collaborating with colleagues, working directly with clients, or learning from industry peers, teamwork is the cornerstone of success. In my field, it’s about building strong relationships where everyone agrees on goals. I have always believed that no one achieves success alone, it takes a team effort to deliver exceptional service and results. Watching my favorite soccer team also reinforces this belief: every player has a role, and the best results happen when they work together seamlessly.

What’s next for you professionally?

I focus on exploring how technology can further improve the services we provide. There is a lot of potential in artificial intelligence and data analytics to help realtors anticipate market trends and manage their finances more effectively. I am also committed to mentoring the next generation of professionals entering this field. Sharing what I’ve learned and watching others grow in their careers is something I find very satisfying. Looking to the future, I want to continue to push the boundaries and ensure our industry evolves in ways that truly benefit the people it serves.
