Boost creatives after YouTube’s review of monetization criteria
Tuesday, June 20, 2023
Google-owned video-sharing platform YouTube has revised eligibility criteria for creators to monetize their accounts through its partner program.
In an update, the company cut the number of subscribers required by half to 500, which is down from the previous requirement of at least 1,000 subscribers.
In the previous plan, a creator also needed to log 4,000 watch hours in the previous year or 10 million short views in the previous 90 days to qualify for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP).
Revised terms now require at least three public uploads in the previous 90 days and either 3,000 watch hours in the year just ended or three million short views in the previous 90 days. The platform said the new standards will initially apply to creators in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea and Taiwan before rolling them out to countries where the YouTube Partner Program is available.
In 2022, we announced that we are growing the YouTube Partner Program to continue making YouTube a rewarding place for creators. Starting in mid-June 2023, we will expand the YouTube Partner Program to more creators with early access to fan funding and select shopping features. “.
For partners who are currently in the YouTube Partner Program, there are no changes to the program benefits available to you.
For one to be able to join the expanded program, they will be required to have an active AdSense account which will either be linked to the channel or set up in YouTube Studio upon submission.
In Kenya, the number of YouTube channels making Sh100,000 or more is up 25 percent year-on-year from December 2022, while only 20 have more than 1 million subscribers.
