Deliveroo sacks over 100 riders in crackdown on illegal workers

2

Deliveroo has rejected more than 100 contestants as part of the continuous effort to address illegal immigration within the workforce.

The food delivery giant confirmed to deputies that 105 workers have been removed since April 2024 because they illegally participated in their accounts with non -documented immigrants. The company has faced an increasing government audit on this issue, while raising concerns about the extensive abuse of the replacement system, which allows the bikes to appoint others on their behalf.

In response to escalating political pressure, Sendalllo and Gig Economy Giants – including just eating and uber – were requested to enhance employment checks. Many platforms now require cyclists to verify a personal or regular video or video to ensure that the registered account owner is the person who completes delivery operations.

Paul Bidford, Director of Politics at Diole, explained the company's campaign in a letter to the Commercial and Trade General Committee, saying:

“We have 105 contestants of 105 delivery since April 2024 because of their alternatives to the right to work documents inappropriate. In order to be clear, the alternative Rider's condition must be verified for his right to work before they can complete any requests with Deliveroo.”

Government figures indicate that 40 % of the delivery passengers stopped during the random tests in April 2023 who were illegally working. It was found that some asylum seekers who crossed the channel earn up to 1500 pounds per month of food delivery operations while staying in government -funded hotels.

The issue of illegal action within the concert has become a political flash point, as both the two main parties are committed to exploitation.

Former Minister of Immigration, Robert Jenrik, previously accused the replacement system of feeding illegal immigration and responsible for public safety due to the right to work. Since then, the Labor Party has taken this initiative, as the Minister of Employment Rights, Justin Madrers, obtained a file from handing over to clarify his efforts to address this issue.

The Deliveroo Workforce is described as a “anxiety” of the government, which continues to click on more strict controls throughout the industry.

A Deliveroo spokesman defended the company's actions, saying: “Deliveroo has led the industry to take measures to secure our platform against illegal work. We were the first to put forward the verification of the right to direct work, the registration process, and to verify the daily identity, and now check the additional devices For passengers, including alternatives.

“We bear our responsibilities seriously and continue to enhance our controls to prevent misuse of our platform. We will encourage the government to ensure that all major platforms urgently adopt the same standards.”

Since Gig's economy platforms are facing increasing audit on employment practices, Deliveroo's efforts to tighten their verification systems may put a precedent for this industry. However, concerns about the extent of illegal work remain and whether other regulatory procedures are needed.
