Barrot went to a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi shortly before noon, to be followed by a press conference and a lunch. On Friday, he will travel to Shanghai to attend meetings with local officials and business leaders.

In the opening notes, Wang called on both countries to “choose pluralism on unilateralism … and follow -up of mutual benefit and separation results instead of separation and isolation.” This language was repeatedly repeated by China in criticizing the US foreign policy and the political system led by the Western.

France was a strong supporter of Ukraine in its struggle against the Russian invasion, while Beijing supported Russia diplomatically and presented the economic lifeline through the purchase of Russian natural resources. Barrot's visit is an opportunity to measure China's position on Ukraine before a large meeting hosted by French on the potential power of peacekeeping for the country.

The talks come at a time when cracks between the United States and Europe appear on Ukraine's support, as Washington is considered growing as it supports Moscow.

French President Francois Macron said on Wednesday that a proposed European armed force in Ukraine can be deployed in the ultimate peace agreement, and it could “respond” to a Russian attack if Moscow launches one.

Europe has long complained about the unfair Chinese commercial practices that it forces force European companies to Chinese partners and share commercial practices and lead to major Chinese trade surpluses.

The two sides also issued a joint statement reaffirming cooperation on climate change, which represents the tenth anniversary of the Paris Convention, saying, “The agreement and its long -term goals require all parties to pump political momentum in international cooperation on combating climate change (and) to protect biological diversity and ecosystems.”

China is the largest producer and consumer of fossil fuel, especially coal.

The administration of US President Donald Trump began one year to withdraw again from the Paris Climate Agreement for the year 2015, and to give the official nature to another withdrawal from both climate and external aid programs, the Trump administration told the global financial institutions that the United States is coming out of the International Climate and Harm Fund.

In the first 50 days, the Trump administration canceled or reduced the financing of environmental justice locally, external aid, climate change, diversity, shares and inclusion.
