From Laser Eyes to Upside-Down Pics: The New Bitcoin Campaign to Flip Gold

1

Well, dear Bitcoiners, it looks like we did. The unthinkable has been contemplated, the improbable has been achieved, and the matter has become completely absurd: the price of Bitcoin has surpassed $100,000! But now, as the laser eyes have dimmed and the confetti has settled, the question looms: What’s next?

Never fear, because Bitcoin’s restive, meme-loving army has a new mission — and it’s as ambitious as it is crazy. Our goal? Flipping the market value of gold on its shiny, antique head and sending Bitcoin toward $1 million apiece. Because, let’s be honest, who needs gold when you have digital treasure?

A flashback to the laser eyes phenomenon

Before we dive into our latest antics, let’s take a moment to tip our hats (or maybe our monocles) to #Laser_eyes_to_100_thousand campaign. Back in the halcyon days of 2021, a Bitcoin enthusiast named Chairforce — yes, that’s a real person, not a transformer — had the brilliant idea to shine Photoshop lasers at Twitter avatars. Why? Because nothing screams “financial revolution” quite like appearing as a superhero in a Marvel knockoff.

The movement was successful. Politicians joined in, and celebrities too. Even your Uncle Jeff, with his dodgy Internet connection, managed to put some laser eyes on his profile picture. Campaign goal? To keep those lasers burning until Bitcoin hits $100,000. Three years later, in December 2024, it finally happened. For the full backstory, you can read all about it in Bitcoin Magazine’s excellent article, “The Origins of Bitcoin’s Laser Eyes.”

But now that Bitcoin is well in the six-figure club, it’s time to stop using the laser (you can stop scaring the family cat now) and set our sights on a new frontier.

New mission: flipping gold

Ah, gold, that bright yellow relic that people have been hoarding for centuries. While they’re great for necklaces, teeth, and pirate treasure chests, it’s time for Bitcoin to remove them from their gilded pedestal. Currently, Bitcoin’s market capitalization is $2.018 trillion, which is 11.36% of gold’s value of $17.765 trillion. Not bad, but we have bigger plans.

In 2024, Bitcoin’s market capitalization will overtake silver, which is a bit like overtaking your slower cousin in a three-legged race. But here’s the kicker: BlackRock, the financial giant, launched a Bitcoin ETF last year, and it actually outperformed the Gold ETF. Yes, you read that correctly. Demand for Bitcoin is growing faster than the queue for free tea and biscuits.

Next step? 2025 could be the year that Bitcoin upends the market value of gold, finally proving to the world that digital trumps physical. Naturally, we need a campaign to match this huge goal.

Introducing #PicFlipTillGoldFlip

Now, let’s talk about campaigns. After the huge success of Laser Eyes, the Bitcoin community needed something new, bold, and devilishly simple. My first idea was #GoldGrillTill1Mill, where users put gold teeth on their profile pictures. But then I remembered two things: 1) not everyone has the graphic design skills of Picasso, and 2) some of us still have nightmares about Kanye’s tooth decorations.

Then it hit me – KISS: Keep it simple, you idiot. And so, #PicFlipTillGoldFlip The campaign was born. The idea is silly and delightful: turn your profile picture upside down. That’s it. No laser, no gold teeth, and no expensive software. Simply rotate your photo and you are part of the action.

This symbolizes Bitcoin’s current position below the market value of gold. The image is upside down because Bitcoin has not yet reversed gold. But when that happens, we’ll be flipping those images right side up faster than you can say “store of value.”

Will you join the movement?

Social media campaigns like this aren’t just about laughter (although, let’s face it, laughter is a bonus). They create community, spread awareness, and remind everyone that Bitcoin’s potential is, quite literally, out of this world.

The Laser Eyes campaign succeeded in raising the value of Bitcoin from $50,000 to $100,000 in just three years. The question now is: How long will it take to turn gold? One year? two? A decade? No matter how long it takes, the momentum is with us. Bitcoin is no longer the underdog, but the digital heavyweight, poised to snatch the crown from the king of glitter rock.

So, dear reader, would you flip your photo for Bitcoin? Will you participate in it? #PicFlipTillGoldFlip And join us on this ridiculously exciting journey to a million dollars? Or do you have a better idea for a campaign? If so, speak up! The Bitcoin community is always up for some mischief.

Until then, I’ll see you upside down. Cheers!
