Jamie Dimon, whose counterpart at Morgan Stanley just announced he will be leaving within the next 12 months, said he remains active and has no plans to quit anytime soon.
“I can’t do this forever, and I know that,” the CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co. said at the company’s Investor Day Monday. “My intensity is the same. I think when I don’t have that strength, I should leave.”
Dimon, 67, said that whenever the council decides on his successor, that person should have the courage to admit mistakes, but move past them quickly. The CEO has joked for years that he plans to stay at America’s largest bank for another five years, no matter when he’s asked.
Asked by Wells Fargo & Co. analyst Mike Mayo on Monday how many years he plans to remain CEO, Dimon joked: “Three and a half years.”
James Gorman, 64, of Morgan Stanley, said on Friday that he plans to step down as CEO within the next year and take over the CEO role.
