Tesla’s new Cybertruck will reportedly finally roll off assembly lines and into dealerships in 2024 — three years after the original production deadline.
Tesla’s massive fanbase is cooling its heels waiting for the new electrified truck, with 1.5 million pre-orders reported as of May 30, 2023, according to Electrek.

Online chatter about delays to the Cybertruck covers a slew of ground-breaking rumours, most of which remain unsubstantiated.
Now a leaked document from the so-called “Tesla Files” sheds some real light on the electric truck’s delay problems, most of which appear to be design-related.
Confidential internal Tesla documents were leaked by a whistleblower in May 2023, Concluded in the German Handelsblatt Newsletter. 23,000 documents were collected inside Tesla over a seven-year period between 2015 and 2022.
As leaks continue to drop, some of the more well-known papers point to engineering flaws in the Cybertruck, According to Wired. A leaked document dated January 25, 2022 cited design issues with the truck’s suspension, body locking, noise levels, and braking.
An automotive engineer told Wired that the design issues weren’t catastrophic but should and could have been avoided.
Cybertruck performance issues are cited
“My first reaction is, dumbfounded,” said the engineer. “These are the classic mechanical automotive engineering challenges that you face in pretty much any vehicle. I am in awe that they would struggle so much with the basics.”
The leaked document also mentions other performance issues, including “head-high toss acceleration,” “structural vibration” and “excessive mid-speed chopping and chopping.”
There’s reason to hesitate if Tesla doesn’t address the issue with potential buyers. And Tesla and CEO Elon Musk have been completely silent about the cost of the Cybertruck.
Musk reportedly has a high-profile Cybertruck delivery event in the third quarter of 2023 and also has plans to ship about 375,000 units in 2024.

Musk hasn’t said much about the document leaks, but the growing problems associated with the Cybertruck have undoubtedly reached eager buyers.
Whether they’ll eat the Cybertruck’s $100 deposit and wait for cleaner versions of the car is unknown — but it certainly doesn’t help Tesla’s Cybertruck marketing efforts.
