MicroBT, the leading manufacturer of bitcoin mining rigs, is focused on meeting the need for upgraded power supplies in bitcoin mining. In an interview conducted at Bitcoin 2023 in Miami Beach, Jordan Chen, COO of MicroBT, confirmed the company’s commitment to developing a solar mining solution. According to Chen, “Solar energy is an ideal energy source for bitcoin mining, both in terms of decentralization and sustainability.” He further explained that MicroBT is working with partners along the value chain to provide a mature solution that uses solar energy for mining around the world.

Chen detailed the voltage and frequency modulation of MicroBT’s Whatsminer platforms to adapt to the change in solar power. He stated that “mining machines must adapt to power changes in order to keep mining all day with different working voltage and frequency.” Chen explained that this dynamic adjustment costs only about 1% to 2% in efficiency compared to the traditional shutdown and restart method, ensuring continued mining operations and improving revenue.

Discussing the cooling methods of the new Whatsminer M50 series, Chen provided insights into the unique benefits and features of each method. He explained, “Air cooling removes heat via fans, while water cooling uses water cooling pads that eliminate the need for fans, heat sinks, and provide longer life.” Regarding immersion cooling, Chen highlighted its advantages, saying, “It is really no dust, no exposure to corrosive air, low noise and longer life.”

Chen shared MicroBT’s focus on heat utilization scenarios, saying, “The heat generated during the mining process will be transferred to an external heating loop through a heat exchanger.” He further explained that the heat recovery rate can reach 95%. Chen emphasized MicroBT’s collaboration with customers in various applications, such as providing heating services to communities and generating steam for industrial uses such as food processing.

When discussing MicroBT’s vision for the future of Bitcoin mining, Chen emphasized their commitment to leveraging renewable energies and maximizing the reuse of heat generated during mining. “Our vision is to allow bitcoin mining to make a greater and greater positive contribution to society,” he said, focusing on reducing carbon footprint and carbon emissions.
