On April 12, IMVU and Nadya Tolokonnikova, creator of Pussy Riot, a Russian feminist punk rock group, announced the creation of a community space in the Web3 metaverse during the NFT NYC 2023 event.

according To Venture Beat, the Pussy Riot community space within the IMVU 3D interactive chat room game will be launched. Additionally, the first 5,000 users to visit the metaverse and complete a free task will unlock an NFT designed by Tolokonnikova.

Using the Metaverse to support various causes

The purpose of the community space “Utopia: A Virtual Sanctuary for Everyone” is to provide a unique and welcoming environment for all women, BIPOC, and people of the LGBTQIA+ community, where everyone can interact within the feminist church with ideologies similar to those they advocate. by Pussy Riot.

Those who want to visit Tolokonnikova’s Metaverse can do so starting April 14 by logging into IMVU and creating a unique avatar to match.

According to Tolokonnikova, creating this digital space is the first step towards realizing her dream of building a “pink church of feminism” that embraces all gender diversity in the real world.

“It is very exciting to launch Utopia in IMVU and make it feminist, queer, diverse, and radical. It has always been my dream to create the Pink Church of Feminism, (…) eventually, I will find a way to build it in real life. But the first step is to launch that vision into Metaverse”.

Tolokonnikova is working on other projects

Real feminist Tolkonnikova, who claims she was jailed for two years for protesting the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has indicated that this is one of the first projects focused on the crypto ecosystem she’s working on to support LGBTQIA+ communities in Russia.

Tolkonnikova also said she is developing digital wearables with IMVU to support organizations such as the North Caucasus SOS, which helps gay people safely leave Chechnya, a Russian region of Russia where “gay people are at extreme risk.”
