In a development from a high-profile lawsuit between Ripple Labs Inc. and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ripple’s defense attorney, Kylie Chisol Kim, has filed a motion with the Southern District of New York, seeking to withdraw from the case.

Kim has been a key legal figure in this ongoing lawsuit and she withdrawal raises some questions. However, it has stated in its motion that its exit is due to its separation from Kellogg, Hansen, Todd, Figel & Frederick, and PLLC, the legal firm that currently represents Ripple Labs.

Kim’s decision to leave comes nearly a year after she and fellow attorney Clayton G. Masterman joined Ripple’s legal team in July 2022.

This was amid an escalating lawsuit against Ripple, its CEO Brad Garlinghouse, and co-founder Christian Larsen. At the time, their listing was seen as a move to bolster Ripple’s defense against the SEC.

Following Kim’s withdrawal, the remainder of the legal team at Kellogg, Hansen, Todd, Figel & Frederick, and PLLC, along with counsel from Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, will continue to represent Ripple Labs in this litigation.

The news of Kim’s exit sparked mixed reactions across Twitter. The unexpected move left many pondering its potential ramifications for the ongoing lawsuit.

a consensus Among users Kim’s departure appears to be a career transition, not necessarily indicative of any fundamental shift in the course of the affair.
