Sunlight Group, part of the Olympia Group, has signed an investment agreement to acquire a 51% stake in Lehmann Marine from Hopen.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Sunlight’s presence in the energy solutions market and expand its portfolio of “innovative” technologies.

Lehmann Marine, based in Seftal-Hetfeld, Germany, produces non-flammable lithium iron phosphate battery systems, which have been approved by global associations such as Bureau Veritas, DNV and RINA.

Lehmann Marine’s pipeline, which exceeds its current production capacity, combined with its “expertise” in scalability and manufacturability, is expected to “play a critical role” in meeting growing demand for marine battery systems, Sunlight said.

“Partnering with Sunlight Group gives us a strong ally,” said Alexander Lehmann, Managing Director of Lehmann Marine. “Their extensive knowledge and decades of experience in the global battery market will significantly enhance our production.”

“This collaboration opens new horizons to more effectively meet the growing demand for marine energy storage solutions, including CUBE and COBRA battery systems.”

The companies’ research and development (R&D) teams will collaborate to develop new solutions.

Joint efforts, such as the purchase of common lithium cells, automation of production lines, and “cost optimization in design,” aim to improve operational efficiency and product competitiveness, and speed up production.

“We are particularly proud to welcome Lehmann Marine to the Sunlight Group family,” said Labroce Pesalas, CEO of Sunlight Group. This strategic acquisition highlights our ability to identify and seize high-value opportunities.

“By combining our expertise with Lehmann Marine, we are positioning ourselves at the forefront of the rapidly growing marine battery market. Together, we are well-equipped to lead the shift to sustainable charging solutions, driving both innovation and growth in an industry that is poised for significant expansion.”

Sunlight has more than 30 years of experience in producing lead acid batteries and lithium ion batteries, specializing in advanced battery technology and manufacturing.

Its manufacturing facilities produce energy solutions for industrial mobility and specialized sectors such as marine batteries.
