Discussions continue about the future role of science in Indonesia in 2026

The Global Forum 2024 Declaration calls for the establishment of effective, reliable and innovative scientific and policy interfaces to respond to disruptive global transformations.
“Our world is undergoing rapid transformation and faces an uncertain future. The declaration states that extraordinary scientific and technological progress is at odds with insufficient progress in addressing the challenges of climate change and most of the Sustainable Development Goals, the growing number of conflicts, growing inequality, and the emergence of rapidly evolving and destructive technologies.” We “There is an urgent need to expand scientific understanding and promote evidence-based, science-informed, long-term thinking and decision-making.”
The World Science Forum was created by three founding organizations, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences – host of the 2024 event – the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Science Council (ISC), and partner organizations the American Society. for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the Inter-Academies Partnership (IAP), and the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC).

“Science as a global language is an evidence-based tool for understanding our world and its future. It should guide society, policymakers and the economy on risks, opportunities and choices. (…) We recognize the evolving role of science diplomacy in bringing science and policy together to address these challenges and promote science for peace .
Titled “Interface and dialogue between science and policy in a time of global transformations“, the World Social Forum 2024 attracted 1,200 delegates from 122 countries, who joined 100 lectures in 19 plenary and thematic sessions over four days, aiming to overcome the limits of large-scale implementation of science-based policy measures at the global level.

The World Social Forum Steering Committee selected the application submitted by National Agency for Research and Innovation Indonesia will host the next World Science Forum in Jakarta in 2026, bringing the forum to Asia and the Eastern Hemisphere for the first time.
